Snac Pac 4 Kids

Snac Pac 4 Kids is a volunteer organization with a mission to ensure local elementary school children in need don’t go hungry during the school year. An individual weekend meal package (Snac Pac) is provided to each eligible student for 34 weekends during the school year. In addition, Snac Pac 4 Kids collects peanut butter to include in the packages just before the long Winter and Spring school breaks. Eligible students are those whose families qualify for the Federal free or reduced cost school meals program. We currently serve students at Alkek and Hill Country Elementary Schools in Bandera ISD.

The original goal of the organization was to reach 250 children per week. In school year 2023-2024, an average of 312 Snac Pacs were distributed each week, at a cost of $2.85 per bag. That’s over 10,000 meal packages with a value of over $30,000, entirely funded by donations! Our commitment is to use 100% of donations for direct food purchases.

Though the Snac Pac 4 Kids program is non-denominational, Bandera Methodist Church generously provides meeting space, climate-controlled storage, and accounting services. Costs such as packaging, transportation, and delivery, are absorbed by the volunteer team members. The group has been fortunate to receive major donations of food items from the HEB grocery firm, and assistance from other churches and organizations in the area.

Dedicated volunteers meet one morning each week to assemble and distribute the meal packages. The specific schedule is based on the Bandera ISD Academic Calendar.
